the world shakes its head "no"
look around you - you're just one
of many wrapped up in your own cares
so certain everybody cares
even though you've made no
real connection to anyone
i'm sure there must be someone
you convince yourself cares
but whether you believe it of no

washed with pre-dawn light
this is urban silence
permeating my double-glazed cocoon
pulsing piano polyrhythms
sotto voce subtextural droning

if the cities never sleep
the suburbs slumber in shifts
every second someone somewhere
is scheduled to supply sounds
